Technology has fundamentally altered the way that we live our lives and relate to each other, propelling society into a process of continuous collective change. This transformation is set to continue with several experts and respected intellectuals, however, warning about potential challenges and dangers of frontier technologies. Machinekind aims to promote best practices of these technologies and mitigate the risk of large-scale damage occurring in the near or distant future.
In order to reap the full potential of emerging technologies it will be key to adopt the appropriate mindset and trajectory of how these technologies should be created, already today. Among technologists there is growing momentum for engaging in AI control, safety, and alignment research. Within the social sciences and the larger part of the public, however, these issues have been highly neglected, and there is little interaction with the tech community for solving these issues.
For this reason, we need to increase interaction between technical teams, companies and policymakers to promote the ethical development of these technologies to benefit society and humankind. Machinekind aims to do it in the following way:
By building an interdisciplinary digital platform publishing independent high-level policy and strategy research on the ethical and socially beneficial development and application of emerging technologies.
By providing a channel in which these issues, their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats can be made understandable to everyone - regardless of the educational background. It will also be key to involve a variety of stakeholders from the public, ranging from academics, politicians, and industry professionals, to artists, authors and public figures. This will serve to expand public interest and ownership in this topic.
